It goes without saying that guys in the United Stated are obsessed with sports. Watching, listening, talking, and sometimes even actually playing sports. So of course there is at least one top Sports Radio station in every city. And their audiences listen very carefully to everything that is being said. Which is great news for advertisers, because it means they are paying attention to the commercials on those stations too!
These stations often go by names like “The Fan” or “The Ticket,” or simply “SportsRadio.” Sometimes they also carry play-by-play coverage of local teams, but not necessarily. No detail about players, teams, and coaches goes undiscussed.
To reach a NATIONAL audience of sports lovers, you can run ads on a NETWORK of Sports Radio stations. One of those of course is ESPN radio, which creates tons of radio programming just like they do for TV. The top show offered by ESPN on their affiliate stations is Mike & Mike in the Morning, a longtime ratings winner featuring Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic along with a cast of characters. Another popular ESPN host is Colin Cowherd.
Not to be outdone, Fox Broadcasting is also committed to sports radio, led by former ESPN personality Dan Patrick. His show can be heard on nearly 300 stations across the country, as well as on Sirius/XM Satellite Radio. In recent years, Fox Sports also added a show by comedian Jay Mohr that has a respectable audience.
The other big Sports Radio syndicator is CBS Sports, whose flagship commentator is Jim Rome, a longtime leader in the sports talk world whose career has not been without bouts of controversy. An up-and-coming personality in the CBS Sports Radio stable is Doug Gottlieb, who is heard in the afternoon on stations throughout the U.S.
